America has always been a nation of other nations. Today, over 14 million households speak a primary language other than English. So it wasn’t surprising when one of the nation’s leading health benefit companies came to us in urgent need of help.

Recent changes in legal requirements mandated that they would need to translate numerous medical documents – totaling over seven million words – into an array of different languages in just three months. Our customer had experienced repeated failures with managing translation terminology, and could not make the presented deadlines.

A team of translators and an automated solution

So to meet this challenging project deadline, the RRD Healthcare Language Solutions provided four account managers and project coordinators to lead a team of 12 on-site linguists and proofreaders, each with deep Managed Care experience.

Together, they performed a full analysis of the client’s business parameters and format requirements, engineering a system of corresponding automated document templates. They also centralized all multilingual digital libraries and assets, making it considerably easier to update, maintain and distribute content whenever and wherever needed.

The complex differences between languages are vast in scale, particularly when you consider that according to American Linguist Stephen Robert Anderson, scientists believe that human language only started to develop around 100,000 years ago. So the rapid success we achieved in helping the client is remarkable.

RRD Healthcare Solutions processed over 59,000 pages of documents, totaling over nine million words in just four and a half months, while completion time for individual documents was slashed from three weeks to just five days. That speed allowed the client to achieve all of its CMS filing submission deadline dates for the first time in years. The combination of our centrally-managed Translation Memory solution, which produces consistent, reusable content, with our integrated print and distribution services, immediately delivered 30% - 35% year-over-year savings to the customer.
