It's not uncommon to have a separate vendor for pre-press, printing, data, lettershop and fulfillment. Perfect execution of your direct mail (DM) program is seldom achieved when multiple suppliers are needed to work in harmony with one another.
Nielsen has built its business around customers that require extensive DM production capabilities. With one point of contact, you have at your disposal complete pre-press, variable digital print (black and full color variable), half size sheetfed and web printing, bindery, data processing and lettershop. Although equipment is important, having the expertise to navigate your project through all phases of production is tantamount. For example, our "DigiComm" process includes procedures on how to manufacture products specifically for mailing…grain direction, utilization of laser inks, drying time, curing time of stock, perfing and scoring requirements, etc.
Another advantage we offer is the understanding of the issues associated with inserting, tipping, wafer sealing and other lettershop functions. For example, an insert that will go into a 6 x 9 window envelope is created at 5.75 x 8.75. While this size may fit inside the envelope it will not insert on a machine very well. A print-only vendor may not catch this potential problem. Nielsen looks at every aspect of the job before it is printed and makes the appropriate recommendations for smooth production.
