Locations that have received an award or other recognition from an external party in 2004:
- Flaxby Moor, UK - Received several awards in recognition of their environmental accomplishments:
- In November 2004 received the Evening Press award as the “Best Environmental Company” in 2004. This award is open to all businesses in the Yorkshire region who consciously strive to improve the environment. The facility received this award for their waste reduction/reuse/recycling efforts.
- In October 2004 received the Environmental Company of the Year award from Print Week the largest circulation magazine in the UK for print. This award is presented annually and is greatly coveted within the UK print industry. The Flaxby Moor facility received this award in recognition of their environmental stewardship efforts.
- In July 2004 presented with two BAFTERS (Best Action for the Environment Roadshow) awards by the Harrogate Borough Council for their outstanding energy and waste management programs. In addition, the facility was one of 13 businesses nominated for the Best Action for the Environment Business Award 2004.
- Outstanding Achievement Award for Energy Action 2004
- Outstanding Achievement Award for Waste and Recycling 2004
- Los Angeles Mfg (September 2004) - Received the 2004 WRAP Award
(PDF, 24 K) from the California Integrated Waste Management Board . The WRAP award recognizes California businesses that have made outstanding efforts to reduce the amount of non-hazardous waste sent to landfills. In the award, CIWMB made this statement regarding the facilities accomplishments:
- "Through aggressive process control and waste management, they have been able to divert over 99% of their generated waste from landfill in 2003. This has resulted in a savings of approximately $157,000. In addition, R.R. Donnelley has established programs that donate used equipment to non-profit organizations, has instituted a package return network for chemical containers and shipping pallets, and is currently exploring renewable energy sources for their plant's operations." - Newark, Ohio (June 2004) - Presented with several awards by the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation Division of Safety & Hygiene and the Licking County Safety Council for their performance in 2003:
- 100% Award (worked entire year without a days away injury or illness)
- Achievement Award (decreased its accident rate by 25% from previous year)
- Group Award (lowest incident rate in each group of similar-risk industries)
- Special Award (accumulated at least 500,000 hours and at least 6 months without a days away accident or illness)
- Reno, Nevada (June 2004) - Awarded VPP "Star" certification from Nevada OSHA (Nevada has a State version of OSHA). This is the first gravure printing facility to be VPP certified!
- Spartanburg, South Carolina (April 2004) - Given an award by the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District for perfect wastewater performance in 2003 (which means no fines or exceedances of regulatory limits!). This as a major accomplishment given the expansion in 2003 which included new plating equipment and a metals treatment plant. They also received this distinction for their performance in 1999.
- Willard, Ohio (May 2004) - Presented with the Industrial 2003 Pretreatment Award by the Willard City Council for the site's "excellence in Water Pollution Prevention Practices and Achievement". This is the eleventh time that the site has been presented the award by the City!
